Skydiving with Cameras: What’s Required

Skydive LangarAFF, Experienced Skydivers, Tandem skydive

Skydiving with a camera is a lot of fun. It’s a great way to capture the experience and to relive and share it in the future.

Unfortunately, not everyone can jump with a camera. Because they are a potential distraction in a sport which requires our full focus, you’ll need to have a minimum of 200 skydives under your belt before you can jump with one.

Tandem skydivers are not permitted to wear a camera. Instead, you can purchase a tandem skydive video and photo package; add it during your booking or on arrival for just £85.

Can I wear a camera on my tandem skydive?

No, unfortunately not. It’s not possible – no matter how big or small the camera is – for a tandem student to wear a camera on their jump. It’s against the rules.

We appreciate that can feel frustrating, especially if you have something like a GoPro or action camera which you’ve used for other sports in the past. But it just isn’t possible.

With that said, our tandem camera flyers are excellent and highly experienced in creating video and photo packages that capture your experience perfectly. They’ll provide you with one full length video, one Instagram ready video and around 30 print ready photos to share and enjoy.

Can I wear a camera while I’m learning to skydive?

Sadly, no, it’s not possible to wear a camera while learning to skydive. As much as we’d love to see our instructors’ faces while they support you through each of your jumps, we can’t allow it because, as noted above, it’s simply not allowed!

Your instructors will wear cameras, though. If you opt for our AFF course, your instructors will upload your jump videos to your own Google Drive folder, which means you’ll be able to access them pretty much straight away – which is ideal for your own reflections on how the jump went, and for sharing on social media if you want to show your friends how well you’re doing.

What do I need to do to wear a camera on my skydive?

You’ll need a minimum of 200 jumps, to have achieved your British Skydiving C licence and to have received a full camera brief.

The brief can be obtained by visiting the camera cabin when we’re quiet and one of our expert camera team will be able to help. It’s best if you bring your camera and helmet with you so we can show you how to use your equipment, including how to cutaway the system.

If you do not yet have a camera setup but want to get into it, you can stop by the camera cabin and we’ll be happy to advise.
