As 2024 draws to a close, we want to say thank you to each and every one of you who joined us to try skydiving for the first time, to learn to skydive with us or to continue your skydiving hobby at our drop zone. We appreciate you all.
It’s been a year seemingly plagued with bad weather but in spite of that, and thanks to the dedication of our staff and community, we have managed to make the most of every available good weather opportunity. Here are some of our favourite memories from this year:
Skyvan visit
We loved welcoming a visiting plane to our drop zone. The Skyvan is a ‘tail gated’ plane which means the entire back opens up, allowing us to run and jump straight out. It’s always fun welcoming different aircraft, too, and we enjoyed seeing the public response in media stories such as this one.
Most jumps ever made in a day – new British record
When you love skydiving, you love to do it as much as you can… but one jumper and his team took that to a whole new level in 2024! Dan Guest led his group to complete an incredible 60 jumps in one day – and they still had time for lunch! Thank you to all of the amazing Langar staff who made this possible. Learn more about it here.
Display skydives across the UK
We love introducing our sport to people for the first time and we’ve loved being invited to make skydive / parachute displays into events across the country in 2024. These have included sporting events (we delivered the match ball to a rugby match), village fairs, school events, university freshers’ fayres and private parties. Find out more about our display team here.
National Championships hosted at Langar
We’re very proud a number of people in our community who compete at the top levels of skydiving and as part of that, we were pleased to welcome various National Championship events to Skydive Langar in 2024 – including the British National Championships in Vertical Formation Skydiving and Canopy Formations. Congratulations to all of our staff and fun jumpers who competed and special shout out to those who represented Team GB at world level events, too.
Night Jumps
We love doing things that are a bit different from time to time and we also recognise the importance of doing those things safely. Having hosted night time skydives many times over the years, in 2024 we incorporated some additional learnings and inspiration from around the world to make our night jumps a real visual spectacle. Check out some videos and photos here.
New Instructor Ratings, Coach Ratings and Staff Achievements
As well as being able to celebrate an abundance of amazing achievements amongst our fun jumpers, we also recognise and celebrate the amazing work of our staff, many of whom have achieved new ratings and new qualifications in 2024. This has also meant we’ve been able to welcome new members to our staff team and we’re very proud of each and every one of you. Thank you to everyone who contributes to this, from the coaches who coach our staff to Brucie and Emily who do the majority of the training for new instructors. You’re all awesome.
Lots of new skydivers through tandem experiences and learn to skydive courses
Once again, we’ve welcomed thousands of people to try our sport for the first time as a tandem skydiver and hundreds to learn to skydive solo, achieving their skydiving licences. Thank you to everyone who put their trust in us to deliver unforgettable experiences, overcoming challenges and making incredible personal experiences. We love that we get to share this with you.
So what’s next?
With 2024 coming to a close, we’re looking forward to heading out to Castellon in Spain for our first ever Skydive Langar Christmas Boogie On Tour! We’ll be closing our doors over Christmas for the first time in our history, allowing our staff a well-earned break and sharing that time together by heading over to sunnier climates for some seaside fun.
When we return, it’ll be 2025 and we already have lots planned for you. We’ll have events across all skydiving disciplines, coaching at all levels, more competitions and lots more besides.
For those who want to continue their progression journey, our Progression School continues to grow and thrive, providing opportunities for anyone to improve their skills and go on to become coaches themselves. Our Instructor School is here to help those who want to turn their hobby into a profession and we welcome approaches from experienced skydivers who want to know more about this.
We’ll also be continuing to provide training at the highest level for everyone, whether it’s your very first tandem skydive, you’re learning to skydive solo or you’re looking for the next step in your skydiving journey through to B, C and D licences.
Look out for events as they’re posted to our Events page and through our social media channels, or book your skydive with us today. Thank you all and we wish you all the best for 2025!
